This or That #8: Aveda vs. Living Proof

Apparently I like to talk about shampoos. A couple of my This or That posts are about either deep conditioning and clarifying varieties. Today's post is just about the good ol' regular kind. I like to switch my shampoos up, because my hair tends to "get used" to a brand after I use it for so long, and just seems like it almost quits working. Plus, I also just get a little bored buying the same old one over and over.

(In case you're wondering, my hair is thin, slightly fine, and has a natural wave and frizz to it. It is about shoulder length.)

Aveda Smooth Infusion Shampoo Review

Aveda Smooth Infusion

Pros:
-Claims to fight frizz and aid your flat iron, which I feel like it does to a decent extent
-Smells great
-Costs less than Living Proof

Cons:
-Only available through Aveda Outlets
-Makes my hair a lot greasier than normal, making second day hair hard to pull off

Living Proof Shampoo Review

Living Proof

Pros:
-Claims to help restore, which I felt like it did on my dried ends
-Smells great
-Can buy at Sephora and get points (yay!)
-Works well for second and third day hair

Cons:
-More expensive than Aveda
-Slightly smaller bottles than Aveda

Overall, both of these shampoos are great. I would actually rate them pretty evenly, making it really hard to pick one that's better. I guess it depends on what you're after in a shampoo. If you want straight and no frizz hair, and can deal with not being able to go multiple days without washing, then Aveda is the shampoo for you. If your hair is more dry and damaged, and you like to go several days without having to style it over and over, than the Living Proof is the better choice.
I think this is the first This or That series that kind of ended in a tie! I truly think that I will continue to switch back and forth between these two brands, and enjoy them both!

Which of the two is your favorite?

  1. If I'm going through the effort of straightening my hair, then getting a few days out of it is a must for me! I haven't tried either, but have been curious about both, thanks for the review.
