Weekend Recap - Santa Claus, Indiana!

Santa Claus Indiana

Can you believe this week is Christmas?! It got here so fast, and some of our Christmas celebrations are already done with. Both of our families live out of town, so Christmas is celebrated before and after the actual holiday. Because of the nature of our jobs, my husband and I always work either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, so it just works better that way.

This past weekend we were in Santa Claus, Indiana! We got into the Christmas mood by visiting several of the holiday sites in the town!

Christmas in Santa Claus

Santa's Candy Castle

If you saw the first picture on my Instagram, you read that this post office is one of the busiest ones there is! You can get letters sent to your kids from Santa, and several people send their mail through this town to get the postage stamp on their mail. This statue marks the spot!

The church is an old one, that was going to get torn down, but was kept and moved to a different location - one that was by the huge Santa statue in the last picture.

The brick building used to be an old candy factory that is sadly no longer in working use. But it has been turned into a candy and gift store, and you can read more about the history of it inside!

Each year, there are two light "shows" you can drive through at Christmas time. One is a large subdivision that has different themes all through it, and the other is an actual story (Rudolf) told through lights. I can remember last year sleeping through half of these because I was so tired on night shift. Thank goodness that's over with now! These houses were all so pretty! And if I was going to have a blow up in my yard for the holidays, I thought this last one was pretty cool with all the reindeer!

We also saw an albino deer - there were several other deer around as well, but you can't see them in the woods as well since they are more camouflaged. We thought this was pretty cool, you don't see this everyday!

What were the highlights of your weekend?!

  1. My mom has "pet" deer (I know, I know). She's been feeding them for so many years now that the "family" keeps growing and they show up twice a day for breakfast and dinner. It's bizarre. But anyway--she's been on SUCH a lookout for the albino deer in our area! People on our neighborhood message board have mentioned that they've seen him--so she's hoping! I told her it'll probably be her xmas gift from the universe and she'll catch sight of him on Xmas eve!! Anyway! haha! So many pretty lights! I love going to look at all the xmas lights!

  2. OMG how fun!!! We have a town called Christmas here in FL and now I want to go this week and see if they do anything cute like this! All those lights are so pretty! And that albino deer is crazy! Poor thing stands out like crazy against those trees! But it's so pretty! Happy Monday!

  3. An albino deer?! I didn't even know there was such a thing! Well, I think this place is definitely now on my bucket list to visit - it looks so cute! That second house that looks like a Cape Cod style construction looks identical to a house on our street, and it's just so cute. Glad you had a good weekend!

  6. I have never been to Santa Claus, but it looks pretty neat! I was wondering where to go around Indy to see lights, but we might have to trek down there next year. Looks like a fun time and how neat that you saw an albino deer! Have a great day girl!

  9. We have a similar "lights in the park" show in my area that is always so fun to attend during the holiday months, looking at your pictures I'm bummed I didn't go this year! Also I love driving around and looking at the different holiday lights in the neighborhoods, it's an instant mood booster.
