How to Pack for a Weekend Trip

With the July 4th holiday coming this weekend, many of us will be traveling for small weekend getaways. Our trip to St. Louis won't be a long one - but we're excited! We did just see them 2 weekends ago for the wedding, but it will be nice to visit with them and not have to plan anything but what we want to do for the weekend.

One of my most pinned posts on Pinterest is this post ---> I'm Leaving on a Jet Plane.
So when I was packing my bags for this weekend getaway, I decided to do another post on packing.

Since it's just a weekend trip and we are driving, I don't have plane space restraints. However, it is just a weekend trip and we have the dog traveling with us too so I didn't want to over pack either.

How to Pack for a Weekend Getaway - How to pack your suitcase
Here is the low down on how I pack! I try to pack "by outfit". One outfit at a time, and accessorize for each one as well. This works well for me so that I can see what I have packed already, and how much. I tend to be an over packer :)
We plan to have a day at the Cardinals Stadium, a pool day and lazy day, possibly a shopping day, and a day for travel and seeing fireworks.
What to wear to a baseball game
Top: MLB.com // Skirt: Forever 21 // Earrings: Premier Jewelery // Bracelets: Etsy, Target, Forever 21 // Sandals : (above picture) Charlotte Russe // Wristlet: (Above picture) Express

I plan to wear this outfit to the Cardinals game on Friday! I know it will be pretty warm, but I wanted to pack something that was cute, cool, and still said Cardinals on it. I thought this was perfect. I haven't been to the new ballpark village, but I am so excited to go. I plan to take one of the 2 jackets that I packed in case it gets cool since it's a night game, as well as the black and white wristlet.

What to Wear for a Pool Day
Sunglasses: Target // Ruffle Suit: Aerie // Coverup: Forever 21

Picking outfits for pool days are pretty easy if you ask me! This blue ruffle suit is my absolute favorite that I own. I scooped it up from Aerie last year. The dress coverup is perfect for the pool, and still matches the 4th of July theme.

Palazzo Pants for a Weekend Getaway - How to Pack
Necklace: Dottie Couture // Tee: Forever 21 // Palazzo Pants: Dottie Couture // Wedges: (Above Picture) Charlotte Russe

You saw these pants on my Wednesday post for the OOTD. They are so comfy and cool, I decided to pack them for one of the days in case we decide to go to the mall and shop. It's always so warm outside but cool indoors, so these are perfect for that. I haven't worn this necklace yet but I think it will be perfect for this!

Black Travel Dress - How to Pack for a Weekend Giveaway
Dress: Target // Bracelets: Charming Charlie and Style This Life // Sandals: (Above picture) Charlotte Russe

I plan to wear this outfit for our travel day over to St. Louis, and then we'll see fireworks that night. I'll use one of my two jackets for this as well, in case it gets too cool during the firework show. This dress is cute but comfy!

Denim Jackets for a Weekend Getaway
Chambray: Target // Denim: Windsor

These two jackets are pretty self explanatory - jackets can make any outfit seem just a little bit different and are perfect for taking it from day to night.
This is what I decided to pack this weekend! I use my Vera Bradley duffel bag to pack my clothes in - which I highly recommend. It's the perfect size! I use a different bag - usually a Victoria's Secret bag to pack all my makeup in.

How to Pack Makeup for a Short Trip
Big Sexy Hair Powder Play // Neutrogena Health Skin Powder // No 7 Matte Foundation // Physicians Formula Blush // Urban Decay Naked Basics // Cover Girl Bombshell Mascara // Benefit's FakeUp // Revlon Photo Ready Primer (see tomorrow's post) // Batiste Dry Shampoo

These are the travel essentials that I pack to keep my makeup bag light since I only need it for a few days! These products are so versatile they can work for any look! Look at tomorrow post for a review on the primer, and a few other beauty products!

How are you packing for you holiday getaway? What are your go to items to keep your suitcase to a medium size?

  3. I love what you've picked out for the trip! For some reason my shirts always end up wrinkled. I'm going to guess it's because I'm constantly digging in there for something or other. I started saving little squares of cardboard I cut out of my Amazon boxes and I fold my tee shirts around them so they stay nice and flat.

  6. You're a fabulous packer - these are all great tips! I also try to pack by outfit when I'm actually going on a "real trip" that requires actual clothes (I basically live in my swimsuit at the lake). You have some cute clothes picked out for the weekend - enjoy!

  7. You are a much better packer than I am! I'm headed home for the weekend, and I am having way too much trouble picking outfits!

  10. I always over pack too. I'll put things in my bag and then forget that I've packed them and then pack more. Urgh. Packing is no fun! I definitely need to set everything out by outfit first. I love that you break them up into the activities instead of days too.
