DIY Picture Frame inside a Picture Frame

Time for another DIY! We've been so busy lately I haven't gotten to accomplish all the DIY's on my ever growing list. I've actually had this one up my sleeve for a while, but wanting to change the pictures in it to our wedding ones. It's one of my favorite do-it-yourself projects in our home!
Frame Montage
Here is what you'll need!
-Large frame
-6 small frames
-burlap
-spray adhesive glue
-nails with pin heads and hammer
-sand paper
We purchased the large picture from Hobby Lobby - yes they still have it. I just checked last week when I was there. It comes in white and black. It isn't cheap, so use your weekly coupon or go when the frames are on sale. It is actually a cork board, and not a picture frame.
The smaller frames are from meijer and were super cheap. We used sandpaper to rough up the edges and make them look distressed. I used 5X7 frames, because that's what looked best with the large frame that I picked.
The back doesn't need to be anything fancy. Mine are just cardboard. It will need to be able to hang, and not just be one that sits on a flat surface. Distress these frames first, and put the pictures in that you want! Don't forget, you'll need all vertical photos.
Next, you'll need to take the backing out of the cork board. Cut a large piece of burlap - one yard should be enough. Spray the actual cork surface with the spray adhesive glue. Then spread the burlap over it and wrap it around the back of the frame. This will keep the edges that fray from showing in the front of the picture.
I just left our extra burlap sticking out of the edges behind the frame. Put the burlap covered cork board back in to the frame.
Next, you'll want to measure out even space where you want the little pictures to hang. This space will depend on the size of the frame that you pick. Once you decide where you want them to hand, gently hammer in the nails, but make sure they have a pin head on them so the small frames will hang.
DIY Frame Inside a Frame
And wa-lah! You have your gorgeous finished product! I have gotten so many compliments on this, and it really doesn't take too terribly long to do!
DIY Picture Frame Montage
It was perfect to display several of our favorite wedding photos! The best part is you can change out the pictures without having to take down the whole big frame. Just pull the small frames off and replace the photos for the season!
What are some of your favorite DIY's in your home?
