To BB or to CC?

For a while now, I've been using BB cream. I love how it looks and feels, and it definitely simplifies my morning routine. Until I got a sample of CC cream and I tried it as well. It got me thinking about the true differences of the creams, and how they worked. Hence, this post! To BB or to CC?
BB VS CC
These are the two products that I have been using. The left is one I purchased after quick research, and the right I received as a Sephora sample. I really like the L'Oreal BB cream because it starts white and changes to a color when you apply it - I have more trouble with the CC cream blending with my skin tone, but it could just be this brand.
BB Creams - The Low Down:
BB creams are beauty balms, or blemish balms. They provide a heavier coverage than a CC cream and are designed to hide your blemishes. They hydrate, prime, perfect and protect. It can take the place of your normal primer, foundation, and powder. Hence why is simplifies your beauty routine. Some are even made with an SPF inside. Pretty much every brand of makeup has a BB cream. These are some of the more popular ones with great reviews.
BB or CC Cream
I have read on several blogs about the great effectiveness of the Maybelline and Garnier brands. Not only do they work well, they are cost effective. On another note, Clinique is one of my favorite skin care brands, and I am dying to try their BB cream - as we all know, this brand is more pricey. I haven't heard a ton about the Olay BB cream, but it had great reviews online. Have any of you had luck with this brand?
CC Creams - The Low Down:
CC Creams are color correctors, which means it also primes, perfects, protects and hydrates - but instead of focusing on correcting your problem spots like blemishes, they are going to correct color issues. CC creams cover red spots, dark spots, and even out skin tone. These still simply your beauty routine, but it is a lighter coverage with a "thinner" finish. These are some popular CC creams out there.
BB Cream VS CC Cream
Again, I am dying to try the Clinique. I am sure it works great, but again its more on the pricey side. I am sure the L'Oreal would work great, since I am such a huge fan of their BB cream, I will be trying this in the near future. I haven't used the Almay brand, but it had a huge amount of supporters on the sites I looked on. I also really want to try the Supergoop CC cream. I got a sample of their SPF serum in a Birchbox and loved it, so I am sure their CC cream is wonderful. It, however, is like Clinique, and is more pricey.
Overall, in my opinion the BB cream is a better product. CC cream is still a great product, and for those of you with red or dark spots, I highly recommend it. But my BB cream covers just as well as foundation without the need of powder for a matte finish. When I have a problem area, it tends to be more of a blemish problem, not a skin tone issue. It is such a quick and easy start to my day, and limits the number of products that I need. There are also so many affordable options out there that you can trial several types without breaking the bank (also true of CC Creams).
Do you have a favorite between the two, or a favorite brand?

Happy Monday!

  1. Great review and explanation - I never really jumped on the BB band wagon, but the CC is something that sounds like something I definitely would like to try :o). Xx

    1. They both work really great, I think it just depends more on your skin type as to what one work better for each person. BB works better for me, but CC may be your thing!

  2. I used to use Garnier's BB cream and was really surprised with how much coverage it actually had for only being $10. This is a great post because I know I had no clue what the difference between BB and CC creams were. I have a friend who uses Supergoop CC cream and loves it!

    1. I know, the L'Oreal shocked me at how well it worked for so cheap! Don't you love when that happens?

  3. Great review of the differences, thanks! I use the Ganier one, I used to not like it but they came out with a formula for oily skin so I like that one. I have not tried a CC cream. I have received samples but all too dark for me :(

  4. I love the title to this post, its so cute! I really enjoy Maybelline products and to me their BB cream is amazing, but my option might be bias since that's the only BB cream in my shade (other then the Smashbox one)! I mean I would love to try the other products but for some reason the shade range is lacking :l

    1. I don't think you can and it would work the same. But there is such a thing as DD cream. I haven't looked into it all that much because it is less common, but it might be what you are looking for. I buy my BB cream at Target or any drugstore like Walgreens or CVS!

  6. Great post. I love my BB cream. Specifically because it protects in 7 different ways (fights signs of aging, has SPF, etc.). I was told that CC cream is heavier and doesn't provide as many benefits. Not sure if that's true!

    1. That's what I was told about CC cream too! All of my research said it was lighter, but maybe it has to do with the brand?! I'm not an expert yet on this, can you tell? haha.

  7. Good to know, I had been wondering what the difference was for a while now!

  9. I've used BB and CC creams from Asia and they definitely are a LOT thicker and heavier than the Western brands which is why I never really used either until fairly recently. I just don't like having a heavy feeling on my face. However, I do use the Clinique BB Cream and it's amazing - I highly recommend it! It's like a slightly thicker tinted moisturizer which is perfect for me.
Anyways, great post - very informative :]

  10. All of the different BB/CC etc. creams overwhelm me! I still typically stick to tinted moisturizers and foundation but I have tried Dr. Jart's BB Cream before and LOVED it! I actually used the entire bottle which is so rare for me. You can find it at Sephora for like ~$30 and I highly recommend it!

  11. Nice review! It's good to see a breakdown of different products.

I also used to use western BB creams, but now I use Korean BB cream and I like it much, much better. The SPF is higher and it's good for pale girls (the American BB cream made me look orange). I use The Face Shop's Power Perfection Light beige which is $13 on amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Face-Perfection-Shop-Anti-wrinkle-Protection/dp/B007LH01L8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1384794767&sr=8-1&keywords=face+shop+power+perfection).

Hopefully this helps some of my fellow pale gals! :)

    1. Yes, I am a paler person so sometimes the shades are hard to match just right. The Smashbox brand I tried definitely ran a little darker than I needed! Thanks for the tip!

  13. I've never really looked into what the difference was-- and I've never tried a CC cream but after reading this I probably should because I tend to have a lot of redness... I tried the garnier bb cream and it was okay but it was just way too oily for me :(

  15. I need to try a few CC Creams...I didn't know much about them and how they're different from a BB Cream, but they might be the right product for me. Thanks for sharing :)

  16. I haven't tried a CC cream yet. I had a BB cream I love the way it made my skin look, but I think it caused me to break-out. I should give CC creams a try since the formula is a little lighter.

  17. I don't ever use creams for my face, but I've heard so many wonderful things about it. I've also heard that it smooths your skin, is that something these do?

  20. I haven't bought either yet. I feel like sticking two letters on a foundation makes it fancier, but there are normal foundations that colour, correct, and hide blemishes. Without the mark-up price just because it's called "BB/CC".

  24. I used to laugh at BB/CC/DD creams, but now that I've gotten used to using my Maybelline BB cream, I wonder how I lived without it. It moisturizes, and I use it as 'foundation'. I haven't tried CC cream yet though, but I am intrigued and want to try!

  26. I'm your newest follower! I haven't tried a CC cream but have jumped on board the BB bandwagon over the past year and now I barely use foundation anymore. I have tried multiple brands including Cover Girl, Maybelline, and Olay. I am using Olay right now and I think it might be my favorite!
