DIY Lettering and Fall Decorations!

DIY Home Letters

This easy DIY project added such a simple touch to our home! The picture is terrible I know - I should have taken it earlier in the day. I needed something that would take up a big amount of space but that wouldn't look too gaudy.
The great thing about this DIY is that you can make it one of several sizes, and can use any color! You can spell whatever word you want. We used "LOVE", and we also did a smaller version using "FAITH". Our "FAITH" letters were wrapped in twin, not material.

Here is what you will need:
-the large block letters from a craft store, or smaller if you want a smaller version
-2 yards of material of your choice
-glue gun

The material I chose was a brown with cream flowers on it because it went well with our living room decor. Your first step is going to be to tear the material into strips. You will want to tear, not cut, the material to get more of a shabby look. You don't want it to look too perfect.

Start by cutting a small slit, making the strip about an inch wide.
You will then rip the strip the rest of the way.

The longer you tear the strips, the better. Once your strips are torn you can begin wrapping. You want to start on the back of the letter. You can either start at the top or the bottom. Keep in mind you don't have to worry about surfaces that won't show (this will save material).

Start on the back or side of the letter.
Then begin wrapping the material around.

Wrap the material around the letter.

Don't cover surfaces you won't need.
While you are wrapping, overlap the fabric a bit. Try not to line up the pattern too much, you want it to look random. You will have to add some random dots of glue to hold the fabric in place.

This is what the finished product will look like. Repeat for all the letters! If you get tired of the look, then you can always re-wrap in a different fabric!

I also used some leftover burlap ribbon from our wedding in June that we used on the pews to create some extra pumpkin decoration.

I'll be doing some more things with pumpkins in the near future, and a wreath for our door. I just haven't gotten there yet! Hopefully I'll get to plan a craft day next week!

Happy Crafting!
